My Most Anticipated Releases of 2024

Hi all! I know I’m a bit late to the game, but I wanted to talk a little bit about my most anticipated book releases for this upcoming year!

Now, I have to admit that, despite being around some bookish spaces, I am really bad at keeping up with upcoming new releases. I usually get caught up in the hype after a book has been released, honestly. So, it was really fun to go searching for books to put this list together as it has put some new books and authors on my radar (and I have been able to get some new pre-orders in)!

So, here are just a few of my most anticipated books of 2024:

1) Bride, Ali Hazelwood

Release date: 6th February 2024

Goodreads Description:

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again…

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she’s ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

I have heard a lot of good things about this author’s contemporary romance books (even though I haven’t actually read any of them yet…) so I was really interested in her move to paranormal romance. I love a good paranormal romance book, and this one sounds like a really angsty, enemies to lovers good time! Plus, I mean, vampires… need I say more?

2) A Tempest of Tea, Hafsah Faizal

Release date: 20th February 2024

Goodreads Description:

On the streets of White Roaring, Arthie Casimir is a criminal mastermind and collector of secrets. Her prestigious tearoom transforms into an illegal bloodhouse by dark, catering to the vampires feared by society. But when her establishment is threatened, Arthie is forced to strike an unlikely deal with an alluring adversary to save it—and she can’t do the job alone.

Calling upon a band of misfits, Arthie formulates a plan to infiltrate the dark and glittering vampire society known as the Athereum. But not every member of her crew is on her side, and as the truth behind the heist unfolds, Arthie finds herself in the midst of a conspiracy that will threaten the world as she knows it. Dark, action-packed, and swoonworthy, this is Hafsah Faizal better than ever.

First, I will fully admit that it was that stunning cover that initially grabbed my attention. But then words like “band of misfits“, “heists” and “illegal vampire bloodhouse” were thrown at me, and I was completely sold on this book. It sounds like it is going to be a dark, adventurous story, with a group of characters that I can fall in love with – what more could I ask for?

3) Bloodguard, Cecy Robson

Release date: 5th March 2024

Goodreads Description:

One hundred years. Tens of thousands of gladiators. And today, only one will rise…

Everything in the Kingdom of Arrow is a lie. Leith of Grey thought coming to this new land and volunteering to fight in the gladiator arena—vicious, bloodthirsty tournaments where only the strongest survive—would earn him enough gold to save his dying sister. He thought there was nothing left to lose.

He was wrong—and they took everything. His hope. His freedom. His very humanity.

All Leith has left is his battle-scarred body, fueled by rage and hardened from years of fighting for the right to live another day.

Then Leith meets Maeve, an elven royal who is everything he despises. Everything he should hate. Until the alluring princess offers him the one thing he needs most: a chance to win the coveted title of Bloodguard—and his freedom.

But in a kingdom built on secrets and lies, hope doesn’t come cheap.

Nor will his ultimate revenge…

Now, this one is a bit of a different pick for me, as it sounds a bit darker and more intense than the books I usually gravitate towards. But something about this is so intriguing. I am super excited to see a male lead character – I love a badass female leading the way usually, so this will be a bit of a different perspective! I am hoping that the politics and revenge plot will make this a fast-paced, layered story that drags me in and leaves me wanting more.

4) Taming 7, Chloe Walsh

Release date: 16th April 2024

Goodreads Description:

She’s the quintessential sunshine girl. He’s the lovable class clown. But storm clouds are rolling in, and this Tommen boy is about to get serious.

Tommen’s cheekiest lad, Gerard ‘Gibsie’ Gibson, has always been a comedian, but most people don’t see what lurks beneath the surface. He is haunted by events of the past and he uses humor to cope, hiding his true self from the world.

Claire Biggs, the epitome of sunshine, has always loved Gibsie, her brother’s friend and her favorite neighbor. She has always seen a side to him that no one else seems to notice. She becomes determined to tame her wild-at-heart childhood best friend.

When lines are crossed, it becomes unclear whether Gibsie and Claire’s friendship will survive. Will it blossom into something more, or will they lose themselves in the wild?

This is probably the book I am most excited for this year – I would genuinely sell my soul to read this book right now! The Boys of Tommen is one of my favourite contemporary romance series of all time; it is funny, angsty, and has some of the most realistic characters I’ve ever read. And Gibsie and Claire were some of my favourite side characters in the first few books, so I am dying to get my hands on this one! April can’t come soon enough!

5) To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods, Molly X. Chang

Release date: 16th April 2024

Goodreads Description:

Heroes die, cowards live. Daughter of a conquered world, Ruying hates the invaders who descended from the heavens long before she was born and defeated the magic of her people with technologies unlike anything her world had ever seen.

Blessed by Death, born with the ability to pull the life right out of mortal bodies, Ruying shouldn’t have to fear these foreign invaders, but she does. Especially because she wants to keep herself and her family safe.

When Ruying’s Gift is discovered by an enemy prince, he offers her an impossible deal: If she becomes his private assassin and eliminates his political rivals—whose deaths he swears would be for the good of both their worlds and would protect her people from further brutalization—her family will never starve or suffer harm again. But to accept this bargain, she must use the powers she has always feared, powers that will shave years off her own existence.

Can Ruying trust this prince, whose promises of a better world make her heart ache and whose smiles make her pulse beat faster? Are the evils of this agreement really in the service of a much greater good? Or will she betray her entire nation by protecting those she loves the most?

I saw “death magic” and was intrigued, but then I saw how her powers have such a big toll on her, and I was all in. I think that this could be a new, interesting take on this type of power, which I’m interested to see play out. Couple this with a fantasy landscape that seems to be filled with desperation, and I think this could make for a powerful story. The hints at the romance also make my heart happy, I can’t lie! Plus…look at that cover!! Beautiful.

6) The Girl with No Reflection, Keshe Chow

Release date: 6th August 2024

Goodreads Description:

Princess Ying Yue believed in love…once upon a time.

Yet when she’s chosen to wed the crown prince, Ying’s dreams of a fairy tale marriage quickly fall apart. Her husband-to-be is cold and indifferent, confining Ying to her room for reasons he won’t explain. Worse still are the rumors that swirl around the imperial whispers of seven other royal brides who, after their own weddings, mysteriously disappeared.

Left alone with only her own reflection for company, Ying begins to see things. Strange things. Movements in the corners of her mirror. Colorful lights upon its surface. And when, on the eve of her wedding, she unwittingly tears open a gateway, she is pulled into a mirror world.

This realm is full of sentient reflections, including the enigmatic Mirror Prince. Unlike his real-world counterpart, the Mirror Prince is kind and compassionate, and before long Ying falls in love—the kind of love she always dreamed of.

But there is darkness in this new world, too.

It turns out the two worlds have a long and blood-soaked history, and Ying has a part to play in the future of them both. And the brides who came before Ying? By the time they discovered what their role was, it was already too late.

This one gives me twisted fairytale vibes, mixed with a hint of Studio Ghibli, which I love! I’m hoping it is whimsical and full of the romance, but I’m also looking forward to the dark undertones that create the mystery of this world. Honestly, a romantasy pick that I’m really looking forward to picking up this year!

And that’s it, folks! Honestly, I’m super excited for this year to get underway so I can get my hands on these books. These are only a few of some of the amazing books that are coming out this year, so let me know some of the books you are excited for – I’m looking forward to finding even more new releases to add to my TBR!

What are some of your most anticipated releases for this year? Have any of them already been released?
